As the son of a man who retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad with 38 years' service and as someone who grew up in Altoona, not only can I appreciate your stunning artistry in painting after painting, I have no doubt that at some time during my many visits to the Horseshoe Curve "back in the day" I stood at this very spot and watched Big Steam thundering past and headed west. Gorgeous portraiture that helps preserve a very special era of American history.

As a native Altoonan I spent a lot of time at the Horseshoe Curve and saw many a westbound steam locomotive pulling a string of freight cars up the mountain with brute power. This might be the best presentation I've ever seen of such a moment...the engine leaning slightly to convey exertion, the giant smoke storm roaring up and back, and the gritty, dark colors of the locomotive. My Dad worked on such magnificent machines in the Altoona Shops for 38 years, and I'd like to imagine this was one that he touched. A masterful painting, David!
